The Bay of Ieranto is a hidden corner of paradise nestled among the cliffs of the Sorrento Peninsula, in the municipality of Massa Lubrense—an enchanting inlet where history and nature meet.
A scenic 6 km trail starts from the small square of Nerano (about a 25-minute drive from Relais Regina Giovanna) and winds through vegetable gardens, lemon groves, and olive trees before reaching the sea. Along the way, hikers pass places rich in history, such as Villa Rosa, where Norman Douglas once stayed and found inspiration for his book Siren Land (The Land of the Sirens).
The path leads to a small pebble cove set between rocky cliffs, with crystal-clear waters and a seabed teeming with marine life, lying beside remnants of industrial archaeology—since for many years the bay was home to a limestone quarry.
Recently featured by Lonely Planet among the 100 most incredible beaches in the world, the Bay of Ieranto has been protected since 1987 by the FAI (Italian Environmental Fund), which organizes guided tours and combined land-and-sea experiences here.
